Reasons To Hire A Personal Trainer

Anyone can have a trainer in the gym. For any reason and for any length of time! We’re not just here for beginners or the elite athlete at the other end of the spectrum. The right trainer can coach all levels and guide you through a range of questions and body mechanics specific to you.

But here’s the kicker! The most popular opinion I hear from people on why they don’t feel they’re not ready to hire a personal trainer… they haven’t made enough progress on their own yet.

My friends, let’s break it down like this, say you’re going to bake a cake. You’ve got all your ingredients but no recipe. Have you ever tried to bake anything without a recipe? My guesses are, if you have, you probably added not enough flour and too many eggs, etc. I don’t know about you but I don’t feel comfortable baking without a recipe.

A trainer is YOUR recipe!

The recipe guides you the same way a trainer would. Because if you’ve made your cake without a recipe, don’t you feel like you would have just been better off following the directions right the first time around? Or even yet, hired a professional baker to make your cake?

Years before I became a trainer myself I hired a coach. I trained with them three times a week for 6 months. I did not get the help I needed or wanted during that time. It completely turned me off of the gym. I knew what went wrong in my coaching shortly after that experience, I didn’t need to be in the industry to understand that.

Being much younger at the time, I didn’t have the confidence to speak up and ask the right kinds of questions. I put my trust in the trainer that they would just educate me. However to this day, I have had many clients of any and all ages ask me questions in the gym, but I’ve set that standard with my clients. You want a trainer that can be an open book of knowledge for you in the gym. You don’t need to know the “right kinds of questions to ask” I don’t expect this from my clients. Because that’s quite frankly, silly, and I’m sure you all know the age-old saying,

there’s no such thing as a bad question.

A gym is an intimidating place. I’m not going to beat around that bush, it is! But only for the first little while. Now, if you have a great and knowledgeable friend or family member that is willing to take you under their wing for a bit and show you the ropes around the gym, fantastic! However, most of us don’t or if we do, that friend or family member likely wants to focus on their own workout, and taking time out to teach isn’t exactly something they want to commit to.

Luckily! This is one of the great reasons to hire a personal trainer.

That is our job and we love it! You don’t have to feel like you have to have made enough progress on your own yet to hire a trainer. The right trainer loves to educate you and fill in those gaps of burning questions. You don’t need to know the “right” questions to ask they’ll simply just start educating you. Remember the cake-baking analogy I mentioned before?

There’s a science behind baking. There’s a science behind training.

Trainers know the science and we are trained to know the advanced and technical side of all of it, but we’re also taught how to break that down into manageable and digestible information for you! The gym is for everyone at any and all stages of their fitness journey. Especially if you’re new, just starting out, or, anything in between.

I wish I had a trainer back then that wanted to educate me because I was too nervous at the time about asking the wrong questions.

If you’re feeling lost in any aspect of the gym, simply having a consultation with a personal trainer can be extremely helpful.

Trainers are there to be your friend and confidant. I’m personally really proud to say I’m close with my clients, and with that, they feel comfortable opening up to me. Which is a huge asset! Training in the gym is more than just lifting weights. Personal trainers will also take into account your stress levels, overall energy levels, your mental health, your relationships, and nutrition, educating you on body mechanics and science, why we’re programming what is for you, how it’ll help you reach your goals, and the list goes on.

If you’ve ever had even one session with a coach, one of the first things they’ll ask you is, “how are you today?” We’re not just making small talk. It is a part of our jobs to gauge how you’ll be for our workout that day and even when you’re working out on your own you should be asking yourself that question too.

I’m lucky that now I have a few fantastic coaches for myself. They cover everything I just mentioned, and I’ve learned from the best and applied it to my own people.

The reasons to hire a personal trainer are boundless.

At the end of the day I really wish I had someone who had my back when I first started, I made so many mistakes and they held me back. I also wouldn’t be the athlete or trainer I am today if I hadn’t found the coaches that I’m currently with. So at any point in your health and fitness journey, it’s never a bad time to meet with a certified PT.

So whether you only work with a trainer for a few sessions or a couple of months, we will try to teach you everything we can about your body and the human body. Because once we understand how things work everything else makes sense and falls into place.

There are so many options out there.

With the advancement of our world, we are so grateful that we can reach so many more people. You can without a doubt find a trainer that is the right fit for you! We’re not just limited to in-person training anymore, a personalized online program is the next best thing you can get. With check-ins, and feedback that includes all the same questions as in-person training you’re really not at any disadvantage simply because it’s online.

There is something for everything, making it so much more accessible. Personal trainers love to educate, we want to be there for you. We want to build up your confidence, both inside and outside of the gym! We want to share with you the recipe for building habits and consistency. To really make this a lasting lifestyle change.
